How HVAC companies get recommended by ChatGPT and Google's AI
When the AC dies in July, people don't scroll. They ask who can come today, and they call the first name that sounds sure. This guide shows what those AI tools look for, and 8 fixes you can do yourself this week for free.
What your customers ask AI
These are the kinds of questions people type into ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI before they call a HVAC company. Under each one: what the AI has to find before it can name you.
“Who can fix my AC today in your town?”
To name you, it needs: Same-day service stated plainly on your site, and hours that match on every listing.
“Best HVAC company in your town for a new heat pump?”
To name you, it needs: A heat pump page that names brands you install, rebates you help with, and towns you serve.
“Is it worth repairing a 15 year old furnace or replacing it?”
To name you, it needs: A helpful repair-vs-replace article on your site. AI quotes businesses that answer real questions.
“HVAC company with a maintenance plan near me?”
To name you, it needs: Your maintenance plan on its own page, with what it includes and the price or how you price it.
“Who installs ductless mini splits in your town?”
To name you, it needs: The words ductless and mini split on your site, and reviews that mention them.
“Who's a NATE-certified HVAC tech near me?”
To name you, it needs: Certifications listed in text on your site, not just as logo images.
What AI tools read before they name a HVAC company
The AI companies don't publish their rules. These are the signals we see again and again in the sources the AI answers quote.
- Reviews, and your replies. How many, how recent, and what they say. Reviews that name the job and the town give the AI words to match.
- The same details everywhere. Your name, address, phone and hours should match on Google, Yelp, BBB, Angi and the rest. Mismatches look unreliable.
- A website that says it plainly. One page per service, the towns you cover by name, prices or how you price, and your license in text.
- Business facts code. A small block of code that tells machines your trade, towns, hours and phone. AI crawlers don't run JavaScript, so it has to be in the page itself.
- Being named by others. Local “best HVAC companies in town” lists, news stories, suppliers and associations. AI answers often quote these lists.
8 free fixes for HVAC companies, this week
- Make separate pages for AC repair, furnace and heating, heat pumps, mini splits and maintenance plans. Name the towns on each.
- List your certifications and brand dealer status in text (logo images alone are invisible to AI).
- Write one honest repair-vs-replace page. It's the question homeowners ask AI most before a big job.
- Say how fast you come (same day, next day) the same way on your site and your Google profile.
- Ask every customer for a review and ask them to mention the job ("new heat pump", "AC repair same day").
- Reply to every review within a few days, naming the job and the town.
- Match your name, address and phone exactly on Google, Yelp, BBB, Angi and Nextdoor.
- Add business facts code to your homepage with your service area towns (free generator below).

Mistakes we see on HVAC company websites
Seasonal hours never updated.
If your listing says closed Sundays but you run emergency calls, AI will tell people you're closed.
Brand logos instead of words.
"Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer" as an image says nothing to an AI. Write it out.
No maintenance plan page.
Plans are recurring revenue, and people ask AI who offers them. If it's not on a page, you're not in the answer.
Only a "Request service" popup.
AI tools can't see popups or forms behind buttons. Put the key facts in plain text on the page.
Questions HVAC companies ask us
Do HVAC companies get calls from AI tools?
Homeowners now ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI who to call for AC and heating, especially for big decisions like a new system. The AI names a few companies. The Free AI Check shows whether yours is one of them.
We're busy in summer anyway. Why bother?
Shoulder seasons and replacements are where AI matters most: people research a $10,000 system before they call. Being named in that research brings the bigger jobs.
Can I pay ChatGPT to list my company?
No. AI tools don't sell recommendation slots today. You earn a mention by being easy to find and trust: reviews, clear pages, matching details.
How do I know if it's working?
Ask the same questions every month and count how often you're named. That's what our monthly report does, with the exact answers saved.

The Free AI Check asks the questions your customers ask, in your town, and shows who gets named. You also get a list of what to fix, in plain words.
We never promise what an AI tool will say. Nobody honest can.
